Amach is Amach are an innovative trad group with an eclectic combination of instruments with flute, cello, harp and vocals. The group comprises Cormac de Barra, Kieran Munnelly, and Aongus Mac Amhlaigh. Amach is Amach made their debut during a Trad is Amach performance for the Irish Traditional Music Archive in 2021.
Amach is Amach will be performing at the Dublin Pride Night celebrating our LGBTQ+ trad and folk artists, Thursday 26th at 8.30pm in the Button Factory. This special event is a collaboration between TradFest Temple Bar, Dublin Pride and the Trad Is Amach queer trad collective. Other acts for the night include Seolta, Kit Knight and the Pride Céilí Band.
Cormac De Barra (Harp, Vocals)
Cormac is a third generation harper in a family of Irish-speaking singers and musicians raised in Dublin, but with roots firmly in County Cork. He has worked in television for over two decades, and also in theatre – collaborating with director Michael Scott and with Rough Magic theatre company among others. He has recorded and toured with many of our foremost artists including Hazel O’Connor, Julie Feeney, Brian Kennedy, Moya Brennan and Clannad.
Kieran Munnelly (Flute, Bodhrán, Vocals)
Kieran Munnelly is a flute and bodhrán player with a fine singing voice. He hails from Belmullet, Co. Mayo, and is now living in Dublin. He has a BA and MA in Irish Music Performance from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL. His career spans over 20 years, bringing him a wealth and breadth of experience from time spent on the road in touring bands, and as a resident artist preforming on home turf. As a flute player, he conveys his craft with flair – not afraid to go deep into the unknown, while not forgetting where he came from. He is a sought after live performer and recording artist.
Aongus Mac Amhlaigh (Cello, Vocals)
Aongus Mac Amhlaigh, is a cellist and singer from Donegal, who grew up singing traditional Sean Nós songs and playing fiddle and cello. He studied cello and voice with scholarship in the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Bill Butt and Kathleen Tynan. He has recorded and performed music with a variety of musicians such as Kila, Danu, Inni-K, Varo, Darragh Lynch, Pierce Turner, Ispíní Na hÉireann, Antonio Breskey, Oisín McAuley, Iona Fyfe, Old Blind Dogs, Resurgam, the Palestrina choir, the RTE philharmonic choir to as well as supporting musicians such as Peter Greene of Fleetwood Mac and UB40.
