Caoimhe Hopkinson
BIOGRAPHY
Caoimhe Hopkinson is a contemporary guitarist and multi-instrumentalist hailing from the West of Ireland. Studying in Newpark Music Centre and BIMM, she now works as a session musician and musical director based in Dublin. Playing for the likes of Róisín Ó, Pauline Scanlon, April, and Glasshouse, she covers a range of styles, with a particular interest in folk music. Growing up learning traditional Irish and Okinawan music aurally, followed by academic studies of jazz theory and harmony in college, she has adopted a hybrid methodology and process to interpreting music. She is currently working on an Arts Council funded project ‘Island Daughter’, exploring the sonic relationship between Irish and Okinawan traditional music. Caoimhe fosters an organic approach to writing and performance that is evident in her compositions and playing.
